Pennsylvania parents who are going through child support disputes may be interested to learn that Antonio Cromartie, a professional football player for the New York Jets, has a hefty support burden. Cromartie reportedly has 10 children with twins on the way.
Eight of Cromartie’s children were born to seven different women. He had two other children and his unborn twins with his wife, who he married in 2010. He reportedly pays $3,500 in child support for each child every month, which ultimately comes to about $336,000 annually.
He was signed to a $32 million contract before the 2015 season that would last the next three seasons. He was given a $500,000 advance that would allow him to catch up on the back child support that he owed. However, the contract was a non-guaranteed base salary, meaning the team could cut him at any time.
When a child is born, both parents are responsible for sharing the costs of raising the child even if only one parent has primary custody. An attorney may help the parent who is responsible for paying child support by providing the court with all of the relevant financial documents that will allow the court to determine how much the parent should pay. They may also explain to the parent how child support is actually calculated and what the other parent may use it for. In some cases, the parent may lose his or her job or may have had to take a pay cut. In these cases, the attorney may work with the court to modify the payment amounts.
