Pennsylvania movie fans may be interested to learn that actress Halle Berry and actor Olivier Martinez have filed for divorce after two years of marriage. The ex-couple announced their divorce on Oct. 27 in a joint statement to CNN. The actors expressed kind feelings towards each other and requested privacy for themselves and their children.
Martinez and Berry, now both 49 years old, met while filming the movie ‘Dark Tide” in 2012. The couple was married in France in July 2013 and their son Maceo was born in October 2013. The marriage was the first for Martinez and the third for Berry, who was previously married to singer Eric Benet and baseball player David Justice.
While Berry was with Martinez, she was involved in a child custody battle with her ex-boyfriend. Canadian model Gabriel Aubry is the father of Berry’s 7-year-old daughter Nahla. Amid the child custody dispute, there was a fistfight between Aubry and Martinez in the driveway of Berry’s Hollywood home. Martinez and Berry also encountered trouble together when a Los Angeles International Airport employee alleged that Martinez had shoved him with a car seat.
Divorces involving the parents of young children are often more complicated than divorces of couples who are childless or whose offspring have grown and are on their own. A parent who is going through a divorce may want to have representation from an attorney who can advocate for the client’s custody and visitation rights at negotiations and court hearings. If a parent is being denied visitation or custody rights after a divorce, an attorney may be able to help to enforce the court order.
